Of all the songs and chants that have served as soundtracks for football matches over the years, the most famous are probably those that were composed in a studio.

The 'National Anthem' or the Champions League anthem has assumed iconic status among football fans since its introduction in the new competition's format in 1992, while building anticipation by being played right before kick-off.

It even reaches those watching at home as it airs at the beginning and end of every game broadcast.

This legendary anthem was composed by Tony Britten, a graduate of the Royal College of Music. To create this iconic song, Britten took the tone of "Zadok the Priest" by George Frederic Handel, a famous German classical musician from the Baroque or 18th century era.

"Zadok the Priest" is traditionally used in coronation ceremonies within the British Empire. By Britten, the majestic nuance of this song was perfectly conveyed in the Champions League anthem so that it really moved the enthusiasm of the players on the gridiron.

The Champions League anthem was recorded in 1992, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and sung by the Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields choir, both based in London.
